DOWN-BUT NOT OUT is a collection of poems and prose that deal with effect of unemployment in human terms.   It deals with people who found themselves going  through the "depression" of the 80's in British Columbia, brought about by an uncaring government.

The B.C. Federation of Labour Unemployment Action Centres were a product of the times and offered support, advocacy counseling referrals and a lifeline to the ever increasing numbers of unemployed workers.

Thirty men and women from varied backgrounds coordinated these centres throughout B.C., but without the dedication and hard work of the many unemployed volunteers, the Action Centres could not function.   I was proud to be chosen as one of those coordinators.

When the centres were threatened with closure due to lack of funding the idea of this book as a fundraiser was born, and grew, with the help of the B.C.Fed. and other labour bodies.

You may not share my political point of view, but  I hope you do enjoy the poetry  and the total dedication I felt.

In Solidarity,    June Wilson
